(July 22, 2009—St. Paul, MN) Pat Coupanger, councilmember for Elmore, and Laurie Ahrens, city manager for Plymouth have been recognized as winners of the Minnesota Women in City Government (MWCG) Leadership Awards for 2009. The awards were announced at the 2009 MWCG annual meeting as part of the recent League of Minnesota Cities Annual Conference and Marketplace in St. Paul.
MWCG also recognized the other 2009 finalists, Councilmember Sharla Gardner, City of Duluth, and Jennifer Schneider, planning commission member, City of Bayport, with certificates of appreciation and recognition for their nomination and leadership.
Nominations for the annual MWCG Leadership Awards are open to all women elected or appointed as Minnesota city officials. The award recipients are recognized for individual achievement in their cities, as well as leadership and mentoring roles both inside and outside of their communities.
