2009 Joint Legislative Conference

Joint Legislative Conference for cities, counties, school boards, and townships to explore common issues faced by local governments; more than 500 attendees expected

Secretary of State to serve as luncheon speaker; legislators to serve as panelists

(April 27, 2009—St. Paul, Minn.) More than 500 Minnesota city, county, school board, and township officials will convene on Wednesday in St. Paul to exchange ideas and advocate for issues impacting local governments. The “Your Local Partners” Joint legislative Conference will be hosted by the Association of Minnesota Counties, Association of Minnesota Townships, League of Minnesota Cities, and Minnesota School Boards Association on April 29 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The gathering of the four associations offers sessions that explore the common issues affecting all local governments—including support of local control, continued strengthening of the state-local fiscal partnership, and encouraging collaborations between local governments.

Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie is the scheduled luncheon speaker, and lawmakers scheduled to participate in a Legislative Leadership Panel include Minnesota State Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller, Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson Kelliher, Senate Minority Leader Dave Senjem, and House Minority Leader Marty Siefert.

Conference sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza, and breakouts conclude at 1:30 p.m. Participants will be encouraged to make appointments to meet with legislators from their respective districts after the formal conference adjourns in the afternoon.
