The first meeting of the House Housing committee included a broad overview from the state agency that works on housing most intensely (Minnesota Housing Finance Agency).

The first meeting of the House Housing Committee commenced on Monday morning. Rep. Karen Clark called the 14- member committee to order. The committee heard presentations from Commissioner Mary Tingerthal of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency and Habitat for Humanity staff. Chair Clark commented on the unique situation for this committee this year, as there was no committee soley dedicated to housing in the previous biennium. In the Senate, housing issues are expected to fall primarily under two committees' jurisdiction.
The committee has a few members new to the House, and two of those have local government experience: Rep. Nick Zerwas (R-Elk River), former councilmember for the city of Elk River, and Rep. Jerry Hertaus (R-Greenfield), former Mayor of Greenfield.
The committee will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays at 12:30. If your representative serves on this committee, please be sure that they know about the housing needs in your city and the local tools that you have used to prevent foreclosure and help neighborhoods recover. Committee members are listed here.
