The Governor signed the bipartisan bill on Thursday, May 23rd.
(Published May 24, 2013)
In the last two days of the legislative session, the conference committee report for HF894 passed off the House floor with a 99-32 vote and a 56-9 vote in the Senate. With bipartisan support from both the House and the Senate, the Governor signed it into law shortly thereafter.
The Senate version was greatly stripped down before passing the Senate and nearly all of the House language was adopted during the conference committee process. Significant components of the bill include: article one which allows for no excuse absentee voting; the decrease in the number of people who can be vouched for at the polls from 15 to 8; and the increase in the days prior to Election Day that absentee ballots can be processed from the 4th day to the 7th day.
