Two important categories of cities have emerged over the past decade: cities that have experienced significant increased in cultural diversity, and those that will experience such increases in the near future. What you do to build an inclusive community can define your success as a city leader and the future of the community you serve.
Building Inclusive Communities
A 2003 League task force developed a report and action guide help city officials think through major issues related to cultural diversity. The guide identifies general outcomes to work toward and suggests action steps. A companion document (also published in 2003) from the League and the Center for Rural Policy & Development identifies promising community-based programs throughout Minnesota.
The League has gathered many resources on demographic change, much of which includes information on the evolving ethnic makeup of Minnesota.
