The League of Minnesota Cities is often asked by the governor, state Legislature, and other organizations to appoint or nominate city officials to serve on a committee, commission or task force. Many of these are statewide in scope and require commitment of time, some travel, and an understanding of legislative issues and municipal concerns from the viewpoint of a variety of city types, sizes, and locations. The League solicits applications from members in a variety of ways. These opportunities, along with the application process, are posted here when they occur.

The Minnesota Office of the Secretary of State hosts a permanent listing of non-League specific opportunities to serve on state councils, boards, task forces, and commissions. A list of vacancies, including the appointing authorities for the vacancies, is posted online each month. Those interested in receiving e-mail reminders about vacancies can register through the Secretary of State’s open appointments web page.
Contact intergovernmental relations (IGR) staff if you have questions about legislative issues or appointment opportunities.
