2013 Annual Conference Learning Formats

Learning Formats Overview

Café Conversations
A series of facilitated small group discussions around key questions followed by a “harvest” where small groups report back their ideas and insights to the whole. A graphic recorder listens in on the small group discussions and visually captures the ideas from the harvest—illustrating the conversations and mapping connections among the ideas.

Case Study Sessions
Experts present case studies on timely topics and answer participants’ questions.

City Practices
City officials highlight particular city achievements that might be replicated by other cities, including the process used, the results attained and key lessons learned along the way.

Deep Dive Sessions
Longer sessions that offer more in-depth development of a subject and engage the audience in exploring concepts and how to apply them in different types of situations.

Ignite Presentations and Roundtables
A series of 5-minute presentations on interesting projects or practices that generate awareness and stimulate thought and action on the topics presented. After the presentations, participants may join roundtable discussions to get more information and resources on the topics of greatest interest to them.

Traditional Sessions
During these more traditional classroom sessions, experts will present solutions to common city challenges.
