State of the Cities Reports
The annual State of the Cities report provides highlights from the League's fiscal conditions survey of member cities. The survey, based in part on a National League of Cities survey, asks cities to report on their revenue shortfalls, budget pressures, and budget-balancing strategies. In many years, the report also features research into timely issues affecting the financial health of cities across the state.
- The 2013 report focuses on the results of the fiscal conditions survey. A supplemental report that focuses on city use of volunteers will be available soon.
- The 2012 report focuses on the results of the fiscal conditions survey. There is also a supplemental report that focuses on city police services.
- The 2011 report focuses on the results of the fiscal conditions survey. Three supplemental reports were also produced as a result of the data collection.
- The 2010 report focuses on the results of the fiscal conditions survey.
- The 2009 report focuses on city fiscal conditions and economic trends, including the financial crisis, foreclosures, and financing city street maintenance.
- The 2008 report focuses on city fiscal conditions and taxes, the foreclosure crisis, and the pursuit of energy efficiency.
- The 2007 report focuses on city fiscal conditions and taxes, tax reform and the public.
- The 2006 report focuses on city fiscal conditions and the costs of clean water.
- The 2005 and 2004 reports focus on the results of city fiscal conditions surveys.
- The 2003 report analyzes census and property tax data in order to identify broad trends faced by Minnesota's cities.
