LMCIT partners with Ochs, Inc., and Assurant Employee Benefits to offer disability benefits to member cities and their employees. Disability insurance helps protect and supplement an employee’s income when he/she is not able to work due to an illness or injury that is not work related. Short-term disability and long-term disability—one or both of these options—are available to city employees.
City employees working at least 30 hours per week can benefit from short-term disability coverage. Cities may contribute to the premium, or offer the program on an employee-paid basis as long as there is 100 percent employee participation.
Cities can select from a number of benefit options and design a program that best meets the needs of the city and its employees. This flexible program is offered at competitive rates.
Cities may offer long-term disability insurance to city employees working at least 25 hours per week and earning at least $12,000 annually, with no medical underwriting requirements.
