Help shape the League's legislative policies for 2008-2009
The League's policy development process begins each summer with meetings of the Improving Fiscal Futures, Improving Local Economies, Improving Service Delivery, and Human Resources & Data Practices policy committees. The committees meet several times to help shape the League's legislative agenda for the next year.

The committees are composed of elected and appointed member city officials. Each year the policy committees revisit ongoing debates and learn about emerging issues. The meetings include a range of presentations and discussions about public policy issues that impact cities.

League members can participate in the policy development process by e-mailing comments and concerns to the League's intergovernmental relations staff and lobbyists, joining a policy committee, and attending the Annual Conference in June.

Improving Fiscal Futures Committee. This committee concentrates on municipal financial management, property and other taxes, state aid programs, and financial reporting requirements.

Improving Local Economies Committee. This committee handles issues such as growth management, land use, boundary adjustments, housing, transportation, economic development, and telecommunications.

Improving Service Delivery Committee. This committee focuses on unfunded mandates, environmental mandates, elections, charter law, open meetings, and government innovation and cooperation.

Human Resources & Data Practices. This committee considers issues such as employment law, labor relations, data practices, and pensions.
